Sithara Krishnakumar and Niranj Suresh have come together for a romantic melody, titled Hitham, which was released recently. The video of the song features actor John Kaippallil and Irene Jose, as an inter-religious couple fighting familial opposition to come together. The track, composed by Lijo Mathew, has a light, youthful feel, with the singers delivering the perfect lilt to a ‘love triumphs over adversity’ narrative.
The love story is also captured with a very contemporary feel, with the couple bonding and falling in love thanks to a puppy. For the young, the music will feel relatable and for an older generation, it is sure to bring back pleasant memories. The song was written by Linku Abraham. The video was directed by Anand Ekarshi with cinematography by Vijay Krishnan R. Lijo Mathew had earlier composed a romantic song, titled Joanne, also featuring John Kaippallil.
While the lockdown has been a difficult time for artistes, with a stop on not only film shoots but also stage shows, it seems like Malayalam music used the time to explore different things. Both prominent playback singers and newbies seemed to have given their creativity free reign with new trends in songwriting and composing. Niranj Suresh had earlier released Thottam Pattu and an experimental cover version of Rex Vijayan composition Theeye Theeye, from the film Chaapa Kurishu. Sithara Krishnakumar’s most popular lockdown track was, arguably, perhaps Chayapattu, which was released in mid-December and composed by writer-director Muhsin Parari and composed by the singer.
